Just after Thanksgiving, many families start to decorate their home for Christmas. Some families pull their artificial trees out of their attics or garage and start decorating. Other families love the look and smell of a real Christmas tree. Many families cherish the time that they spend together picking out the perfect tree. If your family prefers to have a real Christmas tree you will definitely want to take some precautions to help keep your flooring clean.
How to Protect Wood Floor from Christmas Tree Water
Before you bring the tree in your home you will want to remove the netting that may be around your tree and thoroughly shake your tree to get any loose needles off of the tree before you bring the tree into your home. Next cut off any small branches that are at the bottom of the tree so that your tree will fit nicely into your tree stand. We recommend cutting the bottom of the tree so it’s fresh. A fresh tree will allow water to enter your tree more freely. Instead of just using plain water in your stand to water your tree use a mixture of lemon-lime soda and water. This will keep your tree fresher for longer. Place a rubber floor mat or tree mat underneath your tree to prevent any water from spilling onto your floor and causing damage. Your tree skirt will cover the mat so no one will see the tree mat.
No matter what kind of flooring your tree will be standing on you will want to make sure that any water that spills out of your stand gets cleaned up. If you let water stand on your flooring it definitely can cause damage to your flooring. Water on your carpet can cause stains on the carpet and can damage the padding underneath the carpet. Water on your wood flooring can cause buckling.
How Do I Stop My Christmas Tree from Dripping Sap & Dropping Pine Needles?
As the needles fall of the tree you will need to sweep or mop them up. If you leave Christmas tree needles on your carpet it can stain your carpet. If you have wood flooring the needles can scratch your floor if you leave them there and they keep moving around. The fallen needles can also get trapped between the boards of your flooring. Carpet Dry-Tech recommends vacuuming or sweeping underneath your tree on a daily basis. If sap falls on your floor you will want to take care of that as soon as possible. Take a piece of ice and place it on the sap until it gets cold. Then you should be able to pull the sap off of your flooring without causing any damage. If you have hardwood flooring you will want to make sure that you clean up the water so that it does not cause any damage.
